Vortex Global valves and loading spouts

Vortex Global is an American manufacturer specializing in components and solutions for handling powders, granules, and other dry bulk solids. Founded in 1977, the company has spent decades developing equipment for controlling, diverting, conveying, and loading bulk materials.

The Vortex product range includes slide gate valves, diverter valves, iris valves, loading spouts, and aeration-based conveying systems.

The equipment is utilized in gravity-fed processes as well as in dilute-phase and dense-phase pneumatic conveying systems.

A core element of the Vortex approach is customizing components to the specific application. Material characteristics, abrasion, system pressure, conveying method, temperature, and sealing requirements all play a decisive role in selecting and engineering the optimal solution.

Slide gate valves for controlled material flow

Slide gate valves represent one of Vortex’s key product areas. They are used to shut off, open, or meter the flow of dry bulk solids and can be installed under silos, bins, hoppers, mixers, and other process equipment.

Vortex offers various configurations depending on the material and application. Some designs are developed for standard powders and granules, while others are engineered for abrasive products or higher-pressure pneumatic conveying systems.

Significant emphasis is placed on wear compensation and the serviceability of key components. This can be a major advantage in production facilities where minimized maintenance downtime and high operational availability are essential.

Diverter valves for gravity and pneumatic conveying

Vortex also designs a wide range of diverter valves to route material flow between different process lines. The valves are suitable for both gravity flow and pneumatic conveying systems.

Depending on the application, a diverter valve can direct material from a single source to two or more destinations, or converge product streams from multiple sources.

Flextube diverter valve

Vortex offers various design principles for handling abrasive products, high cycling frequencies, and applications where cross-contamination between lines must be mitigated. Valve selection is therefore determined not only by line size, but also by material characteristics and the conveying method used.

Loading of powders and bulk solids

Another vital area is equipment for loading dry bulk materials. Vortex telescopic loading spouts are used to load bulk trucks, railcars, ships, and barges, as well as for open stockpiling.

In these types of processes, dust generation can present a significant challenge. Loading spouts are engineered to deliver material to the receiving point in a controlled manner, mitigating the dispersion of dust and product into the surrounding environment.

The systems can be integrated with positioning equipment and dust filtration units, enabling the design of a complete loading solution tailored to the specific installation.

Focus on wear and maintenance

When handling dry bulk solids, wear can be a critical factor. Sand, minerals, cement, and other abrasive media exert significant strain on valves and associated components.

Vortex develops designs where high-wear zones are protected with wear-resistant materials, and where key wear parts can be replaced on multiple product lines. Furthermore, many Vortex valves are engineered for inline maintenance without requiring complete removal from the process line.

Superior performance and extended service life.
