High-Quality Process Cleaning

More Than 60 Years of Experience

Suncombe is a British manufacturer and system supplier specializing in cleaning, decontamination, and hygienic process systems for life sciences, pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology, and research environments. Founded in 1961, the company has developed solutions for processes where documented cleaning, high hygiene standards, safety, and validation are essential for more than six decades.

Suncombe's product portfolio includes Cleaning in Place (CIP) systems, BioWaste Effluent Decontamination Systems, GMP washers, tanks and vessels, as well as complete process and utility skids. The solutions range from standardized systems to fully customized turnkey units, where process equipment, automation, and documentation are engineered as an integrated solution.

Cleaning in Place – Efficient and Reproducible Cleaning

CIP is one of Suncombe's core competencies. The technology enables the cleaning of tanks, piping systems, and other process equipment without manual dismantling of the plant.

In regulated production environments, cleaning is not merely about achieving cleanliness. The process must be executed uniformly and reproducibly, while critical process parameters are monitored and documented.

Suncombe therefore offers a diverse range of CIP systems, from mobile and compact units to large-scale automated systems capable of cleaning multiple process areas. Solutions are tailored according to plant footprint, cleaning requirements, chemical compatibility, temperature, flow rates, and automation levels.

BioWaste and Decontamination

Another core capability is the treatment of biologically contaminated wastewater. Suncombe's BioWaste Effluent Decontamination Systems—also known as EDS or BioKill systems—are utilized for the treatment of liquid biological and potentially infectious waste from laboratories, research facilities, and biomanufacturing plants.

The primary objectives of these systems are to inactivate microorganisms and ensure that contaminated materials remain fully contained until the treatment cycle is complete.

Suncombe provides both batch and continuous systems, utilizing various treatment methods including thermal, thermochemical, or chemical inactivation. The systems can be engineered for various containment levels and are suitable for BioSafety Levels 1 through 4 (BSL-1 to BSL-4).

GMP Washers for Process Equipment

Suncombe also engineers automated GMP washers designed for cleaning IBCs, mobile vessels, process components, and other equipment that can be placed in a wash chamber.

Automated washing is ideal when a controlled and reproducible cleaning process is required while minimizing manual intervention. This enhances operator safety and simplifies cleaning validation and documentation in GMP-regulated environments.

The choice between CIP and a dedicated parts washer depends on factors such as equipment geometry, mobility, and the required cleaning methodology.

Process Systems, Tanks, and Skids

Suncombe's expertise extends beyond cleaning. The company also engineers hygienic tanks, pressure vessels, and complete skid-mounted process systems.

Process skids can be deployed for mixing, batch manufacturing, formulation, dilution, filtration, and sterile fluid handling. The systems are designed as modular units, integrating tanks, pumps, valves, instrumentation, piping, and automation onto a common skid frame.

A significant portion of the system can thus be pre-assembled and tested at Suncombe's facilities prior to delivery. This reduces on-site installation time and makes Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) an integral part of the project execution.

Automation and Documentation

In pharmaceutical and biotechnological processes, control systems and documentation are fundamental components of the plant itself. Suncombe therefore develops dedicated automation solutions for its process, CIP, and BioWaste systems.

The ControlSuite platform manages recipes, process sequences, alarms, reporting, and user administration. Depending on system requirements, functions such as audit trails and compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 are readily implemented.

Automation is therefore not just about controlling pumps and valves, but serves as an integral foundation for reproducible, fully traceable processes.

From Single Systems to Integrated Process Solutions

Suncombe's strength lies in the synergy of process design, hygienic engineering, cleaning, decontamination, and automation. This makes them a vital partner in projects where multiple critical functions must operate reliably as a single, unified system.

For example, a solution can combine process vessels and skids with CIP cleaning and downstream treatment of contaminated effluent in a BioWaste system. Concurrently, the automation architecture can be integrated so that distinct process stages collaborate seamlessly and are documented under a unified control concept.

Suncombe serves as a specialized system supplier to manufacturing companies and research institutions where hygiene, reproducibility, containment, and compliance are paramount. The combination of CIP, BioWaste decontamination, GMP washers, process skids, tanks, and automation enables a holistic approach, treating cleaning and process equipment as integrated elements of the complete production line.
